A Martian was a person native to the Martian Colonies on Mars, most commonly Humans. (TNG novel: Rogue, et al.)

Prior to Human settlement of Mars, the term "Martian" referred to an imagined species native to the planet. Martians were often featured in science fiction stories of the 19th and 20th centuries such as The War of the Worlds and those featured in Incredible Tales of Scientific Wonder. (TOS short story: "The Aliens Are Coming!", ENT episode: "Similitude", TNG - Section 31 novel: Rogue, DS9 episode & novelization: Far Beyond the Stars)

After travelling back in time to July 1947, Quark, Rom and Nog were mistakenly identified as Martians by the United States Army Air Corps. (DS9 episode: "Little Green Men")

Martians celebrate Colonial Independence Day. (DS9 - Millennium novel: The Fall of Terok Nor)

One imagining of this fictional race were part of a RPG developed by Elizabeth Cutler to pass the time aboard the United Earth Starfleet vessel Enterprise. These Martians were described as being green with sharp, pointy teeth. (ENT novel: By the Book)

Judith Sisko was a member of the Martian Philharmonic. (DS9 - Mission: Gamma novel: Lesser Evil)

In one permutation of the mirror universe, the Martians were extinct, leaving behind artifacts such as buried sculptures in caves and writing laid down deep for preservation in sandstone strata. These were destroyed when Mars was being colonized. (TNG novel: Dark Mirror)

It is unknown if such artifacts were found in the primary universe.
