The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (or MIT) was an institution of higher learning, located just outside of Boston, Massachusetts.

When Gary Seven infiltrated the San Lobos Atomic Research Facility in 1968, his false credentials claimed he had studied (or taught) at MIT. (TOS - Star Trek: Assignment: Earth comic: "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns")

Zefram Cochrane received his education at MIT. It was there that he developed his "time warp theory", including shooting electrons at FTL velocities. (TOS novel: Memory Prime; ST novel: Federation)

As an educator at MIT, Cochrane continued development on a prototype warp engine up until the onslaught of World War III. Keeping his notes in his laptop, Cochrane left MIT on foot with a mysterious man named Michael (in actuality, the Vulcan Mestral) and headed to Bozeman, Montana. (ENT short story: "Mestral")

MIT was later rebuilt after the war, and Commander Spock briefly assisted in a special research project there in his early Starfleet career. (TOS novel: Strangers from the Sky)

Stock footage of MIT was seen briefly in TOS episode: "Bread and Circuses", although it represented a building on Magna Roma.
