In 2379, McPherson was part of the strike team that traveled to Anara-Zel aboard the runabout USS Tunguska to capture a contraband cargo shipment intended to implicate the Tholians in the construction of the nadion-pulse cannons on Tezwa. As the team entered the building, multiple rounds of plasma bursts from Tezwan insurgents struck McPherson through the stairs, killing the Ensign. (TNG novel: A Time to Heal)
