Mel Nis was a Bajoran security guard serving on the USS Enterprise-D, holding the rank of Ensign in 2371. She was one of the team assigned to provide security during the inauguration ceremonies for Governor Ra'ch B'ullhy of Damiano. She was assigned to the entrances to the dining hall with Wong and Murphy. When Data attempted to crash the Enterprise as he was being taken over by the Chova, she was the only security guard on scene.
