In 2442, Melanie visited Jake Sisko's home in New Orleans to ask him why, in all of his published novels, short stories, plays, poetry and essays, he never mentioned any of the people whom he knew on Deep Space 9. In actuality, Sisko had spent many years writing an anthology called Prophecy and Change, which featured stories on people and events that he knew and experienced while living on DS9. Sisko gave her the original manuscript for her to study. (DS9 - Prophecy and Change short story: "Revisited")
In an alternate timeline in which Jake's father Benjamin Sisko became trapped in a subspace field in 2372, Melanie visited Jake in the mid 25th century to ask him why he stopped writing. Jake told her of the loss of his father and the years he had spent trying to rescue him. Before he died, Jake gave her a collection of stories for her to study. (DS9 episode: "The Visitor")
