Messier 80 is a globular cluster in a nebula rich section of the Milky Way Galaxy which is in Federation territory.

In 2381, the USS Titan detected high-energy pulses being emitted from the location that was later discovered to be the planet New Erigol. The pulses were of similar signature to transwarp drive signatures. Since the Borg Collective was launching an invasion of Federation space by a previously unknown entrance, the Titan investigated the pulses to determine the connection, if any. By extrapolating the energy pulses, Chief Tactical Officer Tuvok determined that one path intercepted the cluster. (ST - Destiny novel: Gods of Night)
