[edit] Aboard the Enterprise
Argyle oversaw the shakedown cruise of the Enterprise in 2363, and was naturally over-protective of the ship's engines in the early days of their voyages. When Captain Jean-Luc Picard ordered that the Enterprise proceed to maximum warp speed, Argyle was very unhappy, but carried out his orders and got the ship to exceed warp 9.7. (TNG novelization: Encounter at Farpoint)
As one of the chief engineers aboard, Argyle personally oversaw Kosinski's warp speed experiments, even though he didn't trust Kosinski with the engines, believing his equations to be ridiculous. Ultimately, he was proved correct as the enhancements in engine performance were due to his assistant, The Traveler. (TNG episode: "Where No One Has Gone Before")
Argyle was also called into sickbay several weeks later, to oversee the construction of Lieutenant Commander Data's "brother", Lore, who had been recovered on Omicron Theta. (TNG episode: "Datalore")
[edit] Later Career
After leaving the Enterprise, Argyle served as Chief engineer aboard the USS Repulse under Captain Ariel Taggert. From the Repulse, he went to the USS Excalibur (NCC-26517) under Captain Morgan Korsmo. Argyle was killed on the Excalibur during the Borg incursion of Earth space in 2373. (TNG novel: Vendetta, NF short story: "Making a Difference")
- Discrepancy Note: In TNG comic: "Suspect", Argyle's first name was "Terence", and he was assassinated in 2371 by a Zortai with a grudge against the chief engineers of the Enterprise.
[edit] Alternate Timelines
- In an alternate timeline, Argyle was the female chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-D. She was infamous for never wanting to take a physical, but was convinced by Nurse Geordi La Forge. (TNG novel: Q-Squared)
- In another alternate timeline, Argyle served aboard the USS Enterprise-E in a timeline similar to Yesterday's Enterprise, where it was taken over by the Klingons, who renamed it the IKS Qu'. Argyle was decapitated and killed with the rest of the crew. (TNG novel: Q & A)
