Midshipman was a rank used in Starfleet at Starfleet Academy. It is equivalent to the designation of cadet. One of the grades for the Midshipman rank is Midshipman First Class. The Midshipman rank was also used by the Klingon Defense Force. Midshipman was considered to be one of the lowest ranks given to an officer in training.
