Minicoy was a town and small island on Earth, located near the Indian subcontinent.

The island was home to a famous ambassador, who became known for his bluster and exaggeration. Because of this ambassador, the saying, "there's a warm wind blowing in from Minicoy" became popular to describe such a person. (DS9 episode: "The Circle")
