This page details Nanietta Bacco in the primary universe; for the Nanietta Bacco in the First Splinter timeline ended by the Devidian temporal apocalypse, see Nanietta Bacco (1ST).

Nanietta "Nan" Bacco was a 24th century Human woman from the Federation member world Cestus III who was elected Federation President in the 2380s decade, serving through the sundering of the Romulan Star Empire. (STO website : The Path to 2409)

Biography[]

Cestus III[]

Bacco began her political career on Cestus as a representative for Pike City's Fifth District. In 2368, she was elected Governor of Cestus III, and served in that office for eleven years. During her term, she successfully dealt with a major population hike occurring as a result of an influx of refugees from former Federation worlds that had been ceded to the Cardassian Union in 2370. (ST - A Time to... novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)

Presidency[]

In 2391 the Federation Transport Union recommended that its members refuse any official cargo without adequate protection, in the face of continuing raids by Nausicaan pirates. Bacco met personally with the Union's leaders but was unable to get them to budge on the matter.

Bacco declined to run for Federation President again in 2392, and did so without endorsing anyone as a potential successor. She stated, "I've been here too long. We need new blood and new ideas." She would also mention not feeling right leaving office during the "Romulan crisis." After a hotly contested race, Aennik Okeg of Sauria won the subsequent election and was sworn in later that year. (STO website : The Path to 2409)

The phrase "Romulan crisis" is implied to be regarding the destruction of Romulus, but is not outright stated to be as such. It also could refer to Shinzon's coup and its aftermath, or all these events as a whole.

Personal[]

In 2314, Bacco married Roberto "Bobby" LaManna. She had a daughter, Annabella Bacco, with him before she recognized he was a con man who had been married three times previously only to skip off with the wife's worldly possessions. Bacco divorced him in 2318, before he could do the same to her. (ST - A Time to... novel: A Time for War, A Time for Peace)

Bacco was a fan of baseball from the inception of the Cestus Baseball League on Cestus III in 2371. She would throw the ceremonial first pitch on opening day, in her years as governor. (ST novel: Articles of the Federation)

Alternate realities[]

A major tangent of the prime timeline was created in 2373. Called the First Splinter timeline, this alternate reality's Nanietta Bacco was also president and an influential player in Federation politics in the years prior to that timeline's temporal apocalypse. (Coda)

Background[]

Retro

The Path to 2409 made reference to Bacco's presidency following the 2387 supernova and the destruction of Romulus and Remus, but the tenor of this information is inconsistent with the later canon of Star Trek: Picard. In one such anecdote, the Federation News Network broke a story that the Vulcan Science Academy knew of the threat and did nothing. President Bacco made a public appeal on the Vulcans' behalf before the Federation Council, saying that "Assigning blame does not heal the injured, soothe the stricken or comfort the grieving". Canon media following Short Treks episode: "Children of Mars" paints a different picture of foreknowledge and public sentiment about the supernova with the depiction of the Synth revolt. Also contradictory is description that she spent much of 2389 working with Ambassador Jean-Luc Picard to repair relations between Vulcan and other member worlds. In canon, Picard resigned and withdrew from public life and did not pursue a career in diplomacy.
