Sergeant Nelson Kemper was part of the MACO (Military Assault Command Operations) unit attached to the Enterprise (NX-01) during the Xindi crisis of 2153-2154.
During the Xindi mission, Kemper became romantically involved with Corporal Selma Guitierrez, who soon became pregnant. When Selma eventually informed him of their baby, Nelson stood by her and, when their daughter Elena was born, they both resigned from the MACO service to be a proper family.
Kemper was apparently one of the few who were "in the loop" concerning the reasons behind the faked death of Commander Charles Tucker III in 2161. Tucker apparently helped raise Elena. (ENT novel Last Full Measure)
