New Athens was the capital city of the Empire of Thrace, located on the planet Macedon III. By the late 23rd century, New Athens was a medium-sized city with between 25,000 and 50,000 inhabitants. The buildings in the city were also small, in accordance with Thracian beliefs, and despite their names deriving from Earth, they were not done out in the classical Greek architectural style, but did bear a functional resemblance.

When the USS Enterprise visited Macedon III for shore leave in 2277, the shuttlecraft ferrying crew members to and from the ship, were cleared to land in New Athens. (TOS - Star Trek II Short Stories short story: "Under Twin Moons")
