New Orleans is a city in the United States of America on Earth, located in the state of Louisiana. A major seaport, the city was located at the mouth of the Mississippi River, the longest river on the North American continent. The city is the namesake of the USS New Orleans and the New Orleans-class of Starfleet starships.

New Orleans was the birthplace of Benjamin Sisko, and the location of Sisko's Creole Kitchen, owned and operated by Sisko's father, Joseph Sisko. (DS9 episodes: "Equilibrium", "Family Business", "Homefront", "Paradise Lost")

Following Jadzia Dax's death and the closure of the Bajoran wormhole, Captain Sisko took a leave of absense from Starfleet and returned to New Orleans. (DS9 episodes: "Tears of the Prophets", "Image in the Sand", "Shadows and Symbols")

In 2375, Captain Sisko recommended New Orleans to Miles O'Brien as a place for he and his family to live when they returned to Earth. (DS9 episode: "What You Leave Behind")

In 2376, Julian Bashir and Ezri Dax planned to visit Joseph Sisko and Jake Sisko in New Orleans as part of their shore leave to Earth, although their mission to Sindorin forced them to cancel their plans. (DS9 novel: Abyss)

In an alternate timeline, a bayou on the outskirts of New Orleans was the 25th century home of an elderly Jake Sisko. Sisko and Azeni Korena were married in New Orleans in this timeline. (DS9 episode: "The Visitor")
