The Newport-class was a type of starship used by the Federation Starfleet in the 24th century. The Newport-class was a light frigate design that had originated from a refit of an earlier class, the Santa Fe-class light frigate. By the turn of the 2270s decade, the Newport had a robust production schedule, with twenty vessels due to be commissioned at this specification before the middle of that decade. This class presumably included a prototype ship that would be named USS Newport, although no such ship was mentioned.
