Captain Nikoli Andropov was a Human born on Benecia Colony in 2327. Andropov was a Starfleet Academy graduate, class of 2340. Nikoli Andropov had the distinction of being the first Academy graduate from Benecia. Little is known of his early Starfleet career. Andropov was appointed First Officer of the USS Righteous on Stardate: 35777. He later received a field promotion to Captain by Admiral Santana on Stardate: 36533 when the Righteous' captain was killed during the conflict on Akiri II.

Andropov continued to serve as the Righteous' Captain for many years. He earned a reputation for being a professional and by-the-book commanding officer. Although his crew considered him stern and gruff, he earned their complete respect. Andropov was fond of classic literature which he often quoted to inspire his crew. He was also an accomplished musician.

Captain Andropov commanded the USS Righteous during the Battle of Wolf 359 in 2367. The Righteous disappeared during the battle and was presumed destroyed until it reappeared in 2377. (ST video game: Borg)
