The Northern Wastes were a very harsh region on Andoria where temperatures of 28° below zero in the summer weren't uncommon.

The Aenar, part of the Andorian race, were native to this area of Andoria. Thy'lek Shran eventually lived in the Wastes with his Aenar mates. (ENT episode: "The Aenar", ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)
