In the mirror universe, the Old Ones was the name given to the humanoid inhabitants of Exo III who lived at least one million years ago. When their sun began to dim, they moved underground and created android servants. These androids developed self-awareness and killed their masters.
By the 2260s, Ruk was the last surviving android. During a visit to Exo III in that decade, Captain James T. Kirk of the ISS Enterprise destroyed him.
In 2371, an archaeologist for hire named Jean-Luc Picard speculated that if it were not for Kirk's actions on the planet, the Terran Empire may have been conquered by androids rather than the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. (TNG - Mirror Universe novel: The Worst of Both Worlds)
