The Orb of Contemplation was one of the nine Bajoran Orbs sent by the Prophets from the Celestial Temple.

In 2374 the Orb was being housed in the Bajoran temple on Deep Space 9. Jadzia Dax was in the temple, praying to the Prophets through the orb, when the Pah-wraith possessed Gul Dukat transported into the shrine. He killed Jadzia before releasing the Wraith into the orb. This act allowed the Pah-Wraiths to enter the wormhole, collapsing its entrance and starting a celestial war between the Prophets and the Pah-wraith. (DS9 episode: "Tears of the Prophets")

In April of 2376, at a seceret meeting of high ranking Vedeks, Kyli Shon suggested consulting the Orb about how to deal with the Ohalu Prophecies. (DS9 novel: Avatar)
