An orca was a type of toothed whale indigenous to the planet Earth. It was a cetacean species also known by its scientific name orcinus orca and the common name killer whale.

HistoryEdit

In the year 1986, several models of orcas were displayed in the Cetacean Institute in Sausalito, California. Three life-size models were suspended from the ceiling, depicting two adults and a calf, and two smaller models of a male and female were displayed within a glass case along with information about the species.

In 2286, the image of an orca appeared on a display within the HMS Bounty when Spock searched for a match for the sounds of the Cetacean Probe amongst Earth's animals. (TOS movie: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

In 2293, a black and white picture of two orcas hung from the bulkhead in Captain James T. Kirk's quarters on the USS Enterprise-A. (TOS movie: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

In the 2360s, a type of orca, the Takaya's whale, lived and worked aboard Galaxy-class starships such as the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG references: Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual, Star Trek: The Next Generation USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D Blueprints)
