"We are the noble clan of Romulus. We are the Ortikant. We meet to live, so that Romulans will live." - Ortikant shibboleth.

The Ortikants was a Romulan clan that during ancient times led a despotic rule over their territories on Romulus from their fortress known as Stronghold Ortikant which watched over Rateg. Their influential and powerful status meant that they were members of the groupings of families known as the Hundred. They were, in fact, the wealthiest and most powerful clan amongst the Hundred, spreading their influence in their earliest history first from the homeworld to the planets of the Romulan Star Empire and finally beyond the Romulan border.

As far back as the 22nd century, the Ortikant had dealt with Gorn, Tholian, Ferengi, Tzenkethi and even Klingons.

In the 24th century, Gell Kamemor met her extended family in order to discuss Proconsul Tomalak's proposal of reconstituting the Romulan Senate. They later decided to nominate Kamemor to be their representative Senator for the newly reformed Senate. (ST - Typhon Pact novels: Rough Beasts of Empire, Plagues of Night)
