An ostrich was an animal, a type of bipedal flightless bird native to the planet Earth. While at Starfleet Academy, a classmate of Torvig Bu-Kar-Nguv tried to give him the nick-name "Ostrich", but Torvig discouraged it, believing the allusion to inexact at best. (TTN novel: Sword of Damocles)
