The University of Oxford was an institution of higher learning on Earth, the oldest such institution in Great Britain, with teaching having begun there as early as 1096.

The accent of Oxford-educated students is considered to be distinctive. Donald Archibald Williams, an employee of the Chrysalis Project in the 20th century, and Kojiro Vance, 22nd century captain of the ECS Kobayashi Maru, were both described as having Oxford accents.
