Paghvaram

The paghvaram.

The Paghvaram (in Federation Standard the soul key) was an Orb fragment that has existed for hundreds of years. It was a small green stone set in a golden bracelet.

It was first mentioned in Bajoran history in connection with Kai Dava Nikende, who wore it around his wrist until he died. The existence of the paghvaram was doubted by the Vedek Assembly who considered it to be apocryphal and by others as a folktale. None of the orbs showed signs that they had been damaged by having part of them removed to make the paghvaram. (DS9 novel: Fearful Symmetry)

For several years, the paghvaram was held by the Sirahna of Sidau, who used it to create the Dal'Rok monster and bring the inhabitants of the village together. Whenever the Dal'Rok appeared the Sirah would wear the paghvaram and it would make the Dal'Rok disappear. (DS9 episode: "The Storyteller")

Iliana Ghemor heard of the paghvaram in the late 2370s and launched a raid of Sidau in late 2376. The village was completely destroyed and Ghemor and her crew stole the paghvaram. Ghemor believed the paghvaram was the key to using the Bajoran wormhole to travel to any number of parallel universes, as theorized by Ke Hovath in his work Speculations on the Architecture of the Celestial Temple.
