Paint is a substance composed of solid coloring matter suspended in a liquid medium and applied as a protective or decorative coating to various surfaces, or to canvas or other materials in producing a work of art.

Fabian Stevens once jokingly referred to a type of paint devised to protect technological devices from the power-dampening effects of farantine as "The Magical Paint of Doom," even though it was not magical, did not cause doom, and clearly was not intended as an actual proper name.
