Palukoo are an arachnid species found in large numbers on Bajor's moons. Members of the Bajoran Resistance caught and ate the creatures when they needed to.

After mating, female palukoo kill males by chewing off the heads. (ST - Terok Nor novel: Day of the Vipers)

Traps are often set on Bajor to catch palukoo. (TNG short story: "Flash Point")

In 2370, when she and Kira Nerys were attempting to activate an old Bajoran impulse ship in the Lunar V base, Jadzia Dax noticed a palukoo nearby and was startled. Due to the large size of the animal, Dax thought it might have been a dog or an animal kept as a pet. (DS9 episode: "The Siege")
