Pensho was a Set'leth and the pet of the late Praetor Neral. It was one of several offspring of his previous pet but the one he had chosen and reared.
Information on Pensho was one of several items the United Federation of Planets knew about Neral. (DS9 episode: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges")
In 2377, Neral, knowing he was about to be assassinated, gave Pensho to a family that had served his own for seven generations. As Neral left, Pensho howled for its former master. (TOS - Vulcan's Soul novel: Epiphany)
