Personal sensor nets was a vision enhancing piece of technology developed by the United Federation of Planets that was used by those who lacked the means to see due to a disability that they were suffering from at the time. These devices were considered inferior to the spectroscopic vision enhancer as they were unable to provide that level of detail for images transmitted to the brain though it did not provide much discomfort to its uers.

The sensor net appeared as a collection of hundreds of sensor probes that took the form of buttons, pins, jewelry and other items worn on the user as part of their clothes. It was the use of these sensors that helped their user in seeing their environment as they provided unique data references to the patient by processor resonators implanted in the skull. This did not impart any visual experiences though it did impart mental perceptions of objects or individuals that were based on hundreds of reference points. Other effects of the personal sensor net was allowing their user to determine respiration and heart rates of those beings nearby as well as determine distances with uncanny precision. (FASA RPG module: Star Trek: The Next Generation Officer's Manual)

Thala was able to determine distances with uncanny precision, combining input, from the sensor woven into the mesh she wore over her clothing, her antennae. (TNG novel: The Eyes of the Beholders)
