The phase pistol is the standard hand held energy weapons used by Earth Starfleet from 2151 onwards, the predecessor to the laser pistol and Type-2 phaser. (ENT episode: "Broken Bow", et al.)

Confusingly, the Star Trek Customizable Card Game (Enterprise Collection) has a card with a photo of this weapon, titled Starfleet Phaser Pistol. The phase weapon is quite similar to a phaser in operation, but this is the only occasion they were referred to as such, possibly in error.
