The Punk on the Bus was an unnamed 20th century Human. He once encountered James T. Kirk and Mr. Spock, who traveled back to the 20th century on a mission to retrieve humpback whales.

The punk was loudly blasting the song "I Hate You" over his boom box on a San Francisco bus, despite the fact that many on the bus did not like that he was doing this. Admiral Kirk asked him to turn the volume down, and the punk responded by turning up the music. Kirk then asked, "Excuse me, would you mind stopping that damn noise?", at which point the punk then made an obscene gesture to Kirk and Spock. Spock reached forward and administered a neck pinch, and the human immediately lost consciousness hitting his head on his boom box's power switch - which stopped the music. Spock sat back as the others on the bus applauded his actions. (TOS movie, novelization & comic adaptation: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

The punk was played by associate producer Kirk Thatcher, who also wrote and performed "I Hate You".
