Puss in Boots is an Earth fairy tale that features a talking cat. In the story, the cat gives his master the fake title of "Marquis of Carabas".

In the 2370s, Vilis Mohrlein and Kerel Tama operated the starship Carabas, named for the fictional marquis from Puss in Boots. (DS9 novel: Proud Helios)
