The quarantine field is a medical invention that allows a patient and/or a doctor to be isolated or separated from the environment and provides them with a sterile surrounding.

Most spacefaring civilizations across the Alpha and Beta Quadrants, such as the races of the United Federation of Planets and the Cardassian Union, had developed quarantine fields by the 24th century. (TNG episode: "A Matter of Time"; TNG - Double Helix novel: Vectors)
