Quatills were leaping herbivorous creatures that were native to the planet Vulcan and often travelled in herds. In the distant past, these animals were often preyed upon by flying predators but those animals went extinct. Despite that being the case, the quattils retained an ancient deeply driven instrinct to flee whenever they saw a shadow over them. (TOS novel: Crisis on Vulcan)
