Raktajino was not commonly known of in the Federation prior to the 2260s. (DS9 episode: "Trials and Tribble-ations") By the 2330s, it was more familiar to Federation citizens, but not particularly popular. (TLE novel: Well of Souls)

Captain Declan Keogh of the USS Odyssey, in response to Commander Benjamin Sisko's request for raktajino, opined that it tasted "like drinking an oil slick." His first officer, Commander Joseph Shabalala added, "only without the tangy aftertaste," causing Sisko to burst out laughing. (ST - The Brave and the Bold novella: The Second Artifact)
