Armand Jean du Plessis de Richelieu, Cardinal-Duc de Richelieu (September 9, 1585 – December 4, 1642) was a human who lived in France on Earth during the 15th and 16th centuries. Also known Cardinal Richelieu or simmply Richelieu, Richelieu was a Cardinal - or a high ranking official in the Roman Catholic branch of Christianity on Earth. He was also a political figure, being a chief minister of King Louis XIII. Over 200 years after his death, Alexander Dumas made Richelieu into a villain in his book The Three Musketeers.
While suffering from polywater intoxication, Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu roamed the corridors of the USS Enterprise looking for Cardinal Richelieu. Arriving on the bridge, upon encountering Captain James T. Kirk, Sulu believed that he had just encountered Richelieu. He proceeded to hold the bridge crew at bay with a foil until Spock immobilized him with a nerve pinch. (TOS episode & novelization: The Naked Time)
