The riding hound is a canine animal found on Cardassia.

When Elim Garak was around five, his father Enabran Tain took him to a course outside Cardassia City and put him on a riding hound. Tain initially held the hound's bridle and led it around the course, but then gave the bridle to his son. Tain slapped the hound and it sped off with the young Garak still on its back. Garak fell off several times, but never gave up. Just prior to death in 2373, Tain recalled the event and noted how proud he was of his son. In 2357, Mora Pol had Odo transform into a riding hound to show Kalisi Reyar the Changeling's abilities. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Night of the Wolves)

In 2363, Odo again transformed into a riding hound and saved Sito Jaxa from being killed by a hara cat. (TLE - Terok Nor novel: Dawn of the Eagles)
