Rigel XII was a class H planet in the Rigel system, located in the Levintine Expanse. (ST reference: Star Charts; TOS novelization: Starfleet Academy)
On Stardate 1/7603, extensive deposits of dilithium were discovered at the mining complex on this world. The Orion colonies mined and sold the crystals to both the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire which were used as power rectifiers for warp drives. In the late 2230s, young Montgomery Scott worked on a freighter that ferried miners to the newly established mining colony on Rigel XII. (SCE episode: "Foundations", Book 1)
In 2266, the USS Enterprise went to Rigel XII to obtain replacement lithium crystals, where passenger Harry Mudd tried to sell women to the miners as wives. (TOS episode: "Mudd's Women")
Jana Akton was born and raised on Rigel XII in the 2270s. (TOS novelization: Starfleet Academy)
In 2350, Austin Chang was born in Taynor-Ban-Fal on Rigel XII. (VOY video game: Elite Force)
