A Rigellian mountain devil was a type of animal that was native to the Rigel system. In 2269 during an attempt to sedate Chag Gara, Doctor Leonard McCoy loaded enough pirotoline in his hypospray to knock out one of these creatures. (TOS novel: Spock, Messiah!)
