Rigil Kentaurus (also known as Alpha Centauri A or Al Rijil) is the most prominent of the three stars in the Alpha Centauri star system. Rigil is locked in orbit with Quindar, and is orbited by several planets as well as the system's third star, Proxima. In the Star Fleet Intelligence Manual, the star was referred to as "Al Rijil" (while the prominent planet, Centauri VII, was referred to as "Alpha Centauri"). In the Star Fleet Technical Manual, the earliest mention of this individual component of the Alpha Centauri system, it was referred to as "Rigil Kentaurus". "Alpha Centauri A" is a more scientific notation that was used in Time for Yesterday.
