The Rising was a Bajoran religious belief that borhya spirits of those who did not have the Bajoran death chant performed at their time of death would not move on to the Celestial Temple and so continue to inhabit the places where the individual died.

In 2371, Vedek Rasmus Selin came to believe that the Rising was taking place on Deep Space 9 due to the borhyas of Bajorans who died during the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor on Terok Nor not being at peace. Bannik was able to determine that the Bajoran death chant was performed whenever anyone on Terok Nor had died, making Rasmus believed the Rising had not started. (DS9 video game: Harbinger)
