Riverside is a small town located in Iowa, which is part of the United States of America. The town is bordered by the English and Cedar Rivers. (TOS novel: Final Frontier)
Future Captain James T. Kirk was born in Riverside on 22 March, 2233. He would grow up outside the town in his family's farmhouse. (TOS novels: Best Destiny, Final Frontier)
In 2293, Spock and Dr. Leonard McCoy visited James Kirk's former family home in Riverside, following his memorial service. (TOS novel: The Fire and the Rose)

In 2004, William Shatner arrived in the community, claiming that he was filming a science fiction movie in the area. In reality Shatner and the producers were playing an elaborate hoax on the residents of Riverside to guage local reaction. These events were depicted in the SpikeTV miniseries Invasion Iowa.
