Rock is a naturally occurring substance composed of minerals.

The Horta dissolved rock with their acids to digest the mineral content, they also used their acids to burn through rock, moving as easily through it as a humanoid might through air. (TOS episode: "The Devil in the Dark"; DS9 novel: Devil in the Sky)
