Romulan ale

Romulan ale served aboard USS Bellerophon in 2375.

Romulan ale was a strong, blue-colored alcoholic beverage created by Romulans. In the 23rd century it was illegal to posess in the Federation, but some low-level smuggling took place nonetheless. (TOS movies: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

Romulan ale was difficult to drink, even for Romulans themselves, due to being harsh to the throat. In her magnum opus The Romulan Way, Terise Haleakala-LoBrutto commented that the Romulans drank it in part to prove that they could. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Romulan Way)

In the 23rd century, Romulan ale was also illegal in Klingon territory. (TOS - FASA RPG short story: "The Killax Vendetta")

In approximately 2258 of the Kelvin timeline, Quocch became intoxicated on 14 Romulan ales (his payment for a completed smuggling job). He claimed he would purchase his own planet while drunk. (TOS comic: "Vulcan's Vengeance, Part 1")

While on Romulus, Elim Garak and Krim Lokar grew to hate Romulan ale, finding it to taste foul. (DS9 novel: A Stitch in Time)

Enabran Tain was also not fond of Romulan ale. (DS9 episode: "The Die is Cast")

Quark served Romulan ale in his bar on Deep Space 9. (DS9 novels: The Big Game, Objective: Bajor; DS9 episode: "Covenant")

In 2362, Fallit Kot hijacked a shipment of the ale. He was captured by the Romulans and served eight years in a Romulan prison camp. (DS9 episode: "Melora")

In early 2366, Quark's bar employee, Rom, accidentally tipped Romulan ale over a Cardassian patron, which led to all the occupants of the bar pouring drinks over Rom's head. (TNG - Double Helix novel: Vectors)

During the Dominion War, Romulan ale was made legal, allowing Admiral William Ross to try it for the first time aboard the USS Bellerophon in 2375. However, by the time of Shinzon's coup in 2379, it had been banned again. (DS9 episode: "Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges", DS9 novel: Ascendance; TNG movie: Star Trek Nemesis)

Romulan ale was fermented from a number of grains, including kheh. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Romulan Way)

The Romulans of Virinat used khellid nectar in their local ale varietals. (STO mission: "A Day on the Farm")
