History
Edit
The Bird-of-Prey was class of ship present at Human's first contact with the Romulan Star Empire in 2152 when two of the ships patrolling space near a planet and minefield in the Empire warned the Earth starship Enterprise (NX-01) out of Romulan Space. (ENT episode: "Minefield")
Features
Edit
The Bird of Prey was superior to an Earth NX-class starship although Starfleet built the Daedalus to match it. It was warp-capable and fitted with energy weaponry. Although vessels of this class were used as testbeds for early Romulan cloaking devices, after the ship Praetor Pontilus was destroyed by antimatter-containment failure in its test stealth systems the Romulans did not develop a successful cloaking system for decades. (ENT episode: "Minefield"; ENT novel: The Good That Men Do)
