History
Edit
He commanded Earth's third NX-class starship, the Challenger (NX-03).
In March 2156, the Challenger and the USS Yorktown visited the planet Andoria. Dunsel invited Yorktown's CO, Captain Ketai Shosetsu for a tour and a dinner aboard Challenger. In the middle of the dinner, his communications officer Ensign Hendricks contacted him about a cascading pattern of node failures in Andoria's warp detection grid.
This was the foreshadow of a Romulan attack. In the unfolding battle, the Romulan warbird Dhivael had taken control of Challenger; therefore Dunsel was forced to activate the ship's self destruct system. He and his entire crew were killed, but their sacrifice prevented the Romulans from attacking Andorian cities and capturing an NX-class starship. (ENT novel: Beneath the Raptor's Wing)
