A runner was a type of modified shuttlecraft generally used on the planet Phantas 61. Initially used to distribute mined resources from that planet to other locations around the Norvel star system, a number of runners were later converted by members of the group Taru Bolivar with heavier defensive and weapons capabilities. The runners were also equipped with low-power tractor beams. In 2376, members of the Taru Bolivar, along with several crew members from the USS da Vinci, used a fleet of eight runners to deflect a missile armed with a biological weapon away from Phantas 61, and ultimately toward the system's sun.
