Salazaar (or Karnor III) was a planet located somewhere in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrants, the third planet in orbit of the Karnor star system, at coordinates 3.77S 3.31E. Salazaar, the only class M planet in the Karnor system, had three moons, and was the location of a key Federation outpost in the Salazaar Shipyards, a Starfleet-maintained starship construction facility in orbit of the world. The Salazaar yards were the driving force in Starfleet's 23rd century ship design, construction, and testing. Numerous businesses and investors leading the industry were also based on Salazaar.
Salazaar had a total surface area of 351,000,000 square kilometers and, with 82% land mass and 18% of the surface covered by water oceans, a total land area of 287,820,000 square kilometers. Salazaar has a gravity of 1.12g, a diameter of 9,200 kilometers and an equatorial circumference of 29,000 kilometers. About 50% of Salazaar's makeup is usable metals, and the planet has trace deposits of gemstones, crystals, radioactive materials, and other special minerals. Salazaar has a cool temperate climate, a class M terrestrial atmosphere and a day's length of 28 hours.
In the 23rd century, Salazaar's colony was a noted center of industry, science and trade. By reference stardate 2/2306.01, the world had a population of over 15 billion individuals in the late 23rd century, with over 7 billion Andorians, 3 billion Centaurans and 3 billion Humans. Among the inhabitants were numerous technicians and scientists who work in the starship industry and also in the planet's large astronomy community, as Salazaar was home to numerous telescope installations observing stellar phenomena visible to the system. Salazaar's government was a full-status colonial member of the Federationand the world had a technological/sociopolitical index of 99998-98 and a planetary trade profile of AAAAAB/A(B).
