A scorcher is a plasma rifle weapon.

The scorcher was developed by the Klingons in the 23rd century and were sold told the Romulans during the brief alliance between the powers. The scorcher produces superheated plasma to burn and melt targets, a feature of the weapon that is used to scar individuals by criminals as a point of intimidation. Scorchers are illegal in Federation space and ownership of the weapon is punishable by death by the Klingons, Romulans and Cardassians. Scorchers can still be obtained in the black markets of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants. (Last Unicorn RPG module: Raiders, Renegades & Rogues)

Kor was injured by a scorcher at one point in his life, retaining a burn on his fourteenth rib into old age. (DS9 episode: "Blood Oath")
