The Second Battle of Berengaria was a battle fought between the United Earth and the Romulan Star Empire during the Earth-Romulan War.

History[]

Prelude[]

Berengaria VII was to be the location of Earth Starfleet's Starbase 1 and construction had begun on the facility when Romulan forces invaded the system and wiped out the base as well as a Vulcan research outpost in the First Battle of Berengaria. As Earth continued to suffer losses, Starfleet gathered a fleet of 13 ships together and placed it under the command of Commodore Jonathan Archer, whose orders were to retake Berengaria. The starship Intrepid joined the flotilla on the way, despite Starfleets plans to deploy her elsewhere.

The Battle[]

Earth forces entered the Berengaria system at impulse to avoid the warp detection grid, and after destroying a Romulan patrol, slowly approached the planet. After engaging the Romulan space forces, the Starfleet vessels launched drop ships filled with MACO troopers toward the planet. As the dropships landed, MACO troops fiercely advanced on the Romulan ground forces and were eventually able to push them back. After sustaining heavy casuelties, This forced the last of the Romulans soilders evacuated onto the remaining Romulan warships and retreat from the system, leaving it to the Earth forces. Commodore Archer decided not to pursue, but concentrate on repairs.

Aftermath[]

Romulan forces were defeated, handing Earth its first decisive victory, at a great cost however, seven Daedalus-class starships were destroyed with all hands, many MACO dropships were destroyed prior to landing, hundreds of MACO troops were killed in the course of the battle, and no Romulan technology or bodies were recovered for study.
