September 11

September 11 is the 254th day of the year (255th in leap years) in the Gregorian calendar on Earth.

In 2001, a devastating terrorist attack was carried out against the United States of America in New York City and Washington, DC on September 11th. The World Trade Center was destroyed, and the Pentagon was seriously damaged in the attack. Nearly 3,000 people died in the attacks. This included a number of emergency and law enforcement officials who responded to the World Trade Center site when the first building was attacked. One of the rescue workers who responded had a firefighter's axe which would eventually become a cherished family heirloom. Gary Seven, having deduced the likelihood of the attack occuring, prevented Shaun Geoffrey Christopher from boarding one of the planes that was later hijacked and used in the attacks, thus saving his life. (ST short story: "Assignment: One")
