Shaal was a 23rd century Romulan man who served in the Romulan Star Navy under his commander as the XO of his warship, a Stormbird-class D7 battlecruiser, in the 2260s decade.
Biography[]
In the year 2269, Shaal led a team of Romulan technicians aboard the heavily damaged Federation starship USS Enterprise, tasked with trading each other's remaining functional technology to restore combat readiness in time to defend against an approaching unidentified alien starship. Shaal acquired the Enterprise's phaser bank power converters – restoring his ship's phasers in time for the upcoming battle. He told Captain James T. Kirk that his people were conquerors, and that this joint effort would make no difference to him if they met in the future.
Shaal died in combat hours later, as his ship's engines overloaded while ramming the attacker, triggering an explosion that destroyed both starships. (TOS comic: "Deadlock")
